Through an interactive interview, Dr. Joel Pérez will share insights from his recently published book, “Dear White Leader: How to Achieve Organizational Excellence Through Cultural Humility.” In his book, Dr. Pérez teaches the reader to become an exceptional leader by demonstrating and instilling cultural humility.

- What is cultural humility, and how can it be developed for individual and organizational change?
- The distinction between cultural competence and cultural humility.
- The benefits of developing a posture of cultural humility include being a better coach and more effectively meeting the needs of clients who hold different salient identities than their own.

About Joel Pérez:
Dr. Joel Pérez is an executive and leadership coach, speaker, and consultant who is passionate about helping leaders and organizations achieve their goals and develop a posture of cultural humility so they can have an impact and create the culture they desire.
Joel owns Apoyo Coaching and Consulting, LLC, and is a Professional Certified Coach with the International Coach Federation (ICF). He specializes in career transitions, identity-conscious leadership coaching, and coaching professionals who want to develop cultural humility. He has a certification in the MBTI, is a Qualified Administrator for the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI), is a Gallup Strengths Certified Coach, and is a certified coach through the Academy of Creative Coaching. He has over 20 years of experience in higher education, serving in various key leadership roles. Joel earned his doctorate in higher education administration at Claremont Graduate University.
About Heather Backstrom:
Dr. Heather Backstrom is an accomplished executive coach, facilitator, author, and speaker. She is passionate about cultivating empowered women leaders and has coached leaders in many industries, including finance, biotech, retail, municipalities, aerospace, media, healthcare, and nonprofits.
She is the author of the women’s leadership book Collaborative Confidence: How women leaders can activate self-awareness, amplify their authentic talents, and accelerate workplace change.
She earned a doctorate in organizational leadership from Pepperdine.
About Graciela Meibar:
After emigrating from Cuba at the age of twelve, Graciela Meibar moved to Los Angeles. She received a Bachelor of Arts in international relations from the University of Southern California in 1980 and an M.B.A. from Pepperdine University in 1983. Graciela is bilingual and bicultural. She is a certified coach from The Hudson Institute of Coaching in Santa Barbara and a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
