Description

Join us for an engaging workshop on Culturally Responsive Coaching (CRC), designed specifically for coaches eager to enhance their practice with practical tools and strategies for working with individuals and groups from diverse cultural backgrounds.

In this workshop, we will explore how to recognize and honor the rich cultural wealth, knowledge, and skills that diverse individuals bring to the table. Attendees will learn how to advance their coaching practices by developing dynamic and engaging multicultural strategies for successful assessment and outcomes.

Through foundational discussions and group-based exercises, coaches will gain valuable insights into nurturing individuals’ professional, social, emotional, cultural, psychological, and physiological well-being. The workshop will feature a panel discussion and break-out groups, fostering a rich discourse on how to apply learning and professional growth in contexts that connect to individuals’ lives, communities, and beyond. We will delve into creating a sense of justice and belonging, empowering coaches to help their clients thrive from multiple perspectives of doing and being.

Participants will learn/takeaway:

  • Practical tools and pathways for coaching individuals and groups from varied cultural backgrounds.
  • Strategies for recognizing and leveraging diverse cultural wealth, knowledge, and skills.
  • Techniques for developing dynamic and engaging multicultural strategies for successful assessment and outcomes.

About Timothy Conley

Tim Conley is the Department Chair of Cinema and General Education at California College of Arizona State University. He also holds part-time faculty appointments at California State University, Northridge, and Santa Monica College. Tim’s academic research focuses on Cultural & Ethnic Studies, Film Studies, and Media Studies. As a practitioner, he works with individuals and organizations on effective pathways for culturally responsive administration, coaching, and teaching.

Tim has always been passionate about digital media and owns 67 Entertainment, a film, television, and new media company. He has produced two films available on Amazon Prime and Tubi—American Wisper (2020) and Eve After Dark (2023). His latest film, N.ot W.ithout A.lonzo (2024), runs domestically in film festivals. In 2024, Tim is launching an academic podcast, “The Politics of Hip-Hop Culture,” featuring discussions and commentary on the intersection of education, media, and social transformation of underserved foreign and domestic communities.

About Karen Gunn

Dr. Karen Gunn is currently the principal of Gunn Consulting Group, located in Santa Monica, California, which provides training, facilitation, research, planning, and development services to private, public, and nonprofit community organizations. She has also been an associate for Executive Diversity Services in Seattle, Washington, for over 30 years. She is an American Psychological Association (APA) doctoral alumna and received her Ph.D. in community and organizational psychology from the University of Michigan in 1979.

About Cedric Hackett

Dr. Cedric Hackett is a distinguished scholar, educator, and community leader dedicated to advancing academic excellence, equity, and inclusion. He has been a faculty member in Africana Studies at California State University Northridge (CSUN) since fall 2011 and brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his role. He has also served as the Director of the DuBois Hamer Institute for Academic Achievement at CSUN since 2012 and plays a pivotal role in fostering academic success among underrepresented students.
